His wife, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed she believed her husband was set upon in an unprovoked attack.

‘They had been focused on that street because it’s pretty quiet and they just looking for some chance to look for a single driver [sic],’ she told 9 News.

The man was found unconscious by his father-in-law just metres from his one-month-old baby daughter who was sleeping inside the home.

‘I’m a new mum, if I lost my husband, I have no idea what that means to me,’ his wife said.

He was rushed to Box Hill Hospital before being transferred to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

His wife said her husband has shown some signs of improvement.

‘Because the damage is on the right side of his head, so they are really worried that the whole left body won’t be moved [sic],’ she said.

‘But now he can move the left hand so this is the best thing’s happened [sic].’

Witnesses say one of the offenders fled the scene in a second car as the man’s black 2013 Honda CRV registration number ZRK-896 was stolen.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
