Driver flees cops, smashes into church

A LUXURY car driver has been arrested after crashing into a converted church after allegedly fleeing police at high-speed.

The unlicensed BMW driver was spotted driving erratically on Chapel Street, Windsor about 1.55am this morning.

Police got out of their car and approached the driver, a 36-year-old Armadale woman, on foot, as she sat idle inside her car at the intersection of Dandenong Road and Lexington Grove, Armadale.

A Victoria Police spokesman alleged she took off from police at high speed and smashed into a house — which used to be a church — at the intersection of Wattletree Rd and Kooyong Rd.

The driver was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A woman who was inside the home at the time escaped uninjured.

The crash comes after an out-of-control car smashed into a house in Coburg last night after colliding with another vehicle.

A 52-year-old Glenroy woman was driving a car north along Service St when she collided with a car on Ohey St and smashed into a house about 9.20pm.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution and the other driver, a 20-year-old Epping man, was not injured.

A female resident inside the home at the time was also uninjured.

Both crashes are being investigated by police.
