Emirates A380 forced to land in Perth due to medical emergency

An Emirates A380 has been forced to make an unscheduled landing in Perth due to a medical emergency.

Flight EK414 departed Dubai around 6am Perth time on Wednesday morning, en route to Sydney.

But after more than 12 hours in the air, as the plane flew over the Gibson Desert, an elderly passenger needed medical treatment.

The decision was made to divert the plane to Perth Airport so the man could be taken off the aircraft.

The A380, with 460 passengers onboard, arrived at Perth Airport just after 6.30pm.

The other passengers have remained on the aircraft with no word yet from Emirates about when the flight will continue on to Sydney, due to the Sydney Airport curfew.
