Lightweight Roadstar has all the comforts

The high-density extrusion foam core of the fibreglass panels in Roadstar’s GT Sport Mk2 are tough as nails and more thermally efficient than traditional expansion foam.

This not only makes the van suitable for Australia’s harsh climate extremes but also has made it lighter.

With a tare of 2030kg and an aggregate trailer mass of 2480kg, it’s towable by many medium-size four-wheel drives.

This is Roadstar’s first attempt at fibreglass sandwich-panel construction; previously it specialised in composite aluminium construction.

The body has three main components: two one-piece fibreglass walls and a one- piece front, roof and rear section. These are bonded and fully sealed with Novatio, a special MS polymer sealant exclusive to Roadstar. This flexible sealant binds instantly, protecting the van from unwanted damage.

Roadstar is so confident of the construction technique the body structure comes with a five-year warranty, while its independent Dexter Torflex suspension comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Two 9kg gas bottles are mounted on the A-frame drawbar with provision for a centre-mounted jockey wheel.

The sandwich-panel construction required a major rethink of the cabinetry design and finish. The result was CAD-designed and CNC-cut furniture that integrates seamlessly into the caravan.

The van’s electrical wiring, from the LED lights to the water pump, runs neatly behind the cupboards and overhead lockers so it is just a matter of removing the back panel of the relevant cupboard to gain access.

Underneath, the plumbing and wiring is strapped out of harm’s way with the wiring for the electric brakes going directly to the drum.

Two 95-litre water tanks are fitted in front and behind the axles. On the 15.2cm A-frame drawbar are two 9kg gas cylinders, a centre- mounted jockey wheel and standard ball coupling.

The kitchen has a Swift four-burner stove with a Swift microwave/griller underneath.

Opposite is a dinette with tri-fold table. The lounges are upholstered in Annahide bonded leather but fabric is available. Speakers are hidden inside the storage compartment beneath both dinette lounges.

The bathroom has a shower, Thetford toilet, washbasin, wall- mounted washing machine and plenty of storage.

This caravan comes with all the creature comforts including an Aircommand Cormorant air-conditioner and a 28-litre Swift hot-water service.

Plenty of storage is on offer with storage nooks in the wardrobes either side of the bed that have power points to charge phones and laptops. The bed has a 1.9m mattress on a posture- adjustable slatted frame on gas struts.

Externally, the GT Sport Mk2 is fitted with a fold-down picnic table and a full-width tunnel boot lined with galvanised sheet metal, 12V and 240V power points, and a Carefree roll-out awning.

LED lighting throughout the van, along with a 100Ah battery system, and provision for solar panels and a rear- view camera, make this caravan the complete package for long-term trips

The van is available in four floor plans.

The GT Sport Mk2 is not an off-road caravan but Roadstar is more than confident in its ability to handle gazetted tracks in national parks.
