Student council collects blankets for needy

Busselton Senior High School is helping keep the community warm, collecting blankets from June 18-20 as part of the student council’s blanket appeal.

Associate principal David Gault said the blanket appeal was a new initiative undertaken by the student council, which supported local, national and international charities each year.

He said while student councillors had already supported the Walk for Tenderfeet and CanTeen’s Bandanna Day, the students hoped to collect as many blankets as possible to give back to the community.

“The blanket appeal runs in collaboration with the Salvation Army, so they will manage the distribution of the blankets in the local community,” Mr Gault said.

Blankets can be donated at Busselton Senior High School’s front office. Meanwhile, AccordWest’s Coat-A-Thon drive is also running in Busselton.

AccordWest has already distributed coats and blankets to people in need in Busselton as part of this year’s drive.

However, more donations are required across the South West — particularly children’s jackets.

Collection points for donations are located at AccordWest Busselton or Vasse MLA Libby Mettam’s electoral office.
