The house where you can kayak from the bottom of the garden

The Whittard family have Narrabeen lagoon at the bottom of their garden and are regularly out on the water.

“We have various kayaks under the deck which are used regularly in summer,” Cathy Whittard said.

“We have a stand-up paddle board that gets a weekly workout and we also have a small dinghy with motor for the boys to take fishing.”

From garden to lagoon, the Whittard toys are all water toys and the family has had so much fun on Narabeen Lagoon.

Often the couple’s two sons come home with dinner and many a party has been enjoyed on the back lawn with an inflatable pool floating on the fresh, clear water coming in with the tides.

Paul and Cathy Whittard spent two years living in an original fisherman’s cottage on the block before they built this home at 17 Malcolm St, Narrabeen.

Mr Whittard has a background in architecture and engineering so the couple did lots of research, learning about the light and the land.

They then worked with a local building design consultant and custom home builder to create the Hamptons design they wanted.

“With the block facing north we wanted to take full advantage of the glorious summer,” Mr Whittard said.

“We also aimed for an open, relaxed flow throughout, taking advantage of the outlook over the lagoon from the kitchen/dining/lounge, master suite and from the full width deck.”

An in-built spa in the back entertaining deck is a welcome spot for relaxing at the end of a day.

The couple are particularly proud of their blackbutt hardwood floors and the ensuite to the main bedroom with its large, freestanding soak bath and lagoon view.

This is a five-year-old house with two living areas, a home office, plantation shutters throughout and ducted airconditioning.

The Whittards say if they had to do it over they would not change a thing.

The popular North Narrabeen Beach is just 200m away and the family has been heavily involved in nippers at the surf club over the years.
