Centuries from Hay Park captain Jono Whitney and batsman Kris Miller led the Redbacks to a dominant 224-run win over Dalyellup Beach at Hay Park on Saturday.
Whitney (113) and Miller (119 not out) were excellent for the Redbacks, who set Dalyellup an imposing total of 5/286 from their 50 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Whitney would have been worried when Ashley Sbizzirri (1) was trapped lbw by Liam Renton (1-51 off 10 overs).
The Redbacks were 2-6 when George Hargrave (5) was bowled by Peter Gygorcewicz (1-29 off six overs).
This brought Whitney to the crease alongside Charlie Home (19) and the pair went about putting on a 46-run partnership.
Zane Verhaaf (2-51 off seven overs) got the breakthrough when Home was caught behind by Paul Jones, before he bowled Michael Tassone (8), with the Redbacks in trouble again at 4/68.
But a club record 185-run partnership between Whitney and Miller took the game away from Dalyellup.
Miller was in great touch, smashing 10 sixes and six fours, while Whitney used his fantastic patience to work the ball around the field.
James Woods (1-56 off three overs) finally broke the partnership when Whitney was caught by Jones, but Chris Waddingham continued the damage by hitting three big sixes to finish on 20 runs off six balls.
Dalyellup’s run chase got off to a terrible start when hard-hitting batsman Scott Harber (4) was caught by Whitney off the bowling of Jack Charters (3-27 off five overs).
Charters continued to destroy the top order, bowling both Woods (1) and Steve Denison (0) to leave Dalyellup at 3/20.
Reon Tither (4-18 off five overs) got in on the act by bowling Corey Fagan (17), and Mitchell Boyle (0) in consecutive balls.
Dillen Watson (0) hauled out to Hargrave off Tither, before Waddingham (3-13) dismissed Jones (10).
Tither bowled Renton (14), while Waddingham cleaned up the tail by trapping Nathan Greenmount lbw for a duck and bowling Grygorcewicz for 10, with Dalyellup all out for 62 in just 17 overs.
