Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says she is the victim of a witch-hunt

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says there is a ‘witch-hunt’ going on in the City of Perth Council and that two councillors are campaigning against her.

The West Australian revealed today councillors were asked to sign a legal document declaring they had not spoken to a journalist from the newspaper.

Speaking to 6PR’s Gareth Parker, Ms Scaffidi said she did not issue the statutory declarations but said it was a “no-brainer” that councillors should sign them.

She said Deputy Lord Mayor James Limnios and councillor Jemma Green did not sign the declarations and they were campaigning against her.

“If anyone’s been victimised here it’s me but I’m getting used to it,” she said.

“I understand the hunger more than anyone for news but there are some issues such as the CEO’s pay that I believe should remain in camera.”

Ms Scaffidi said the council had committed to a $500,000 audit to reassure concerned ratepayers it was operating well.

“The City of Perth Council is operating the best it has ever operated,” she said.

Councillor Judy McEvoy took to Twitter this morning to say it was she who presented the statutory declarations to the council and that the whole matter was extremely embarrassing for the council.
