Petition for Kwinana Freeway to be widened to combat congestion

A new petition is calling on the State Government to widen Kwinana Freeway.

Lara Kirkwood, who drives from Aubin Grove to Cockburn train station every day, says the drive us become unbearable.

She started a petition to extend the Kwinana Freeway northbound from two lanes to three from Russell Road to Roe Highway and add two slip lanes – one between Russell and Armadale road and another between Armadale road and Berrigan Drive.

In twenty four hours more than a 1000 people have signed up.

However, sustainability experts say it would actually make congestion worse in the long run because it would encourage more people to drive on the Freeway – and cost the tax payer hundreds of millions of dollars.
