Social scene meets sanctuary

This gorgeous home, built in sought-after Hillarys, portrays what can be achieved with stunning design, foresight and a good eye for detail.

From the stunning blackbutt floorboards that grace the entry hall and the central area of the home, through to the unique layout, it is quite spectacular.

The rear of the home has been dubbed the ‘children’s wing’ by present owners Steve and Debra, as it was designed to house their two teenage children while they still lived at home. There is a separate access to this area, perfect for when the kids started getting jobs and would come home at all times of the day and night.

“It was perfect for us, they would leave and come back at all hours and they could do so with the freedom of not disturbing us,” homeowner Debra said.

As well as the three large bedrooms, all with triple wardrobes, and the oversized laundry packed with clever storage solutions and overhead cupboards, there is a second luxurious bathroom and an entertainment room.

The entertainment room showcases solid timber doorframes and architraves, custom cornices, skirtings and cornered ceilings, in keeping with the classic styling elsewhere in the home. This room also features double doors opening to the alfresco and has outlooks to gardens and water features on both sides of the home.

Moving towards the front of the home, there is the long central space called the ‘grand room’ by Steve and Debra. It is 16m long and incorporates the well thought-out kitchen, made up of Tasmanian Oak, granite benchtops and a large corner pantry, as well as a host of storage solutions.

At the other end of the grand room is the ‘coffee corner’, so called because it is the place Steve and Debra go to relax when the weather is a bit colder.

“The coffee corner is especially lovely on winter afternoons, providing a warm and sunny retreat to read the paper and enjoy a coffee while overlooking the courtyard water feature,” Steve said.

Located between the kitchen and the coffee corner is a dining space that can easily hold a large number of guests.

“It is regularly used for long-table dinners, which we have done on many occasions for Christmas and special events, easily seating over 20 people,” Debra said. “Alternatively, you can use the area for a dance floor when you have that special party.”

The front of the home is where adults can find their sanctuary. Accessed through large French doors, the ‘adult wing’ includes an amazing master suite, formal lounge room and an extremely spacious home office area.

The office could also easily be adapted into a fifth bedroom due to its large size. All of the rooms in the adult wing enjoy 36-course ceilings.

“The office would be great for a home business because it is big, but most importantly, it has privacy from the rest of the home so you could easily host meetings in there without disruption,” Debra said.

The local area around the home is also a delight. The home is walking distance to Hillarys Boat Harbour and a variety of shops and cafes, as well as Hillarys Yacht Club.

“There is a warm, friendly atmosphere, with many of the neighbours getting together regularly for Sunday afternoon drinks and annual lunches out together,” Debra said.
